The History
WE CANNOT START A RESTORATION PROJECT WITHOUT KNOWING THE ORIGIN OF THE BUILDING
"The noble Coppa family controlled over 600 hectares of farmland."
The origins of this story begin before 1374, when it is believed that the Coppa family took ownership of the property that the palace now occupies. Historical documents indicate that the first Coppa in Castel Rigone, Giovanni Coppa, was a soldier who may have been given the medieval tower as a gift from the Commune of Perugia for the role he played in local battles. In the following centuries, the tower became an integral part of a stately palace in Castel Rigone from which the noble Coppa family controlled over 600 hectares of farmland.

...the palace passed to her son Luigi and became one of many Bichi Rispoli properties...
On May 31, 1757 Marianna Coppa married the Marquis Carlo Bichi Ruspoli of Siena. Marianna herself, as the last descendant of the Coppa family, administered numerous family properties scattered between Castel Rigone and Siena. Her husband's possessions extended to the Val d'Orcia and the Maremma.
Marianna Coppa was the last Coppa to live in the palace in Castel Rigone. When she died, the palace passed to her son Luigi and became one of many Bichi Rispoli properties. In 1882, when her grandson Alessandro died without an heir, Nicolò Bichi Ruspoli Forteguerri Pannilini took possession of the palace. It continued to pass down through his lineage, operating as a farm until 1977 and a residence for the family until 1997.
The logo shown on our website is the Coppa family crest and it is found throughout the palace
