The brick border in the courtyard provides a nice contrast to the ancient stones under the arches.

When the wine vats were demolished in the area that would become Michael and Debra's staircase, the bricks were saved for future use. They have now returned to be used as the border to the courtyard. They are placed on their edge because they are stronger this way.
